From the Principal’s Desk: Week of April 21st…
Good Morning, I do hope you had a great weekend. It was a good weekend to catch-up with oneself, spend quality time reading and with family. As I look out over the calendar for the next few weeks, I realize we have only 7.5 weeks remaining in this school year. The past seven months have gone so fast that I am sure the next 7.5 weeks will do the same. It is my goal that we stay focused on curriculum and learning. For several weeks now I have been sharing with you thoughts from the book, The Janitor but Hoskins and Hilbert. Directive 5 from the book is “Don’t spend; invest!”. The concept supporting this directive is foundational in education. Investing is to ensure that quality of learning is the fundamental foundation of what we do in school. Our teaching, learning culture, and content is to be our focus. The “glitz and glitter” and social fun events of school is great fun but can not come at the expense of loosing quality learning and teaching. Thus we must always use question the value of activities that take our attention away from curriculum. As events are planned through the remainder of this year and into next, we need to ask, “Is this spending or investing on the learning of our students?” Today we welcome Mr. Tatsuya Omi to our campus. He will be an investment in the education of our students. Mr. Omi will spend the next year with us to support teaching in the Japanese language classes, classes with international perspectives. Accolades and Kudos: I want to thank Ben Parsons for the outstanding organization of LHD and opportunities provided for students during the day. A thanks to all of you for your flexibility as last minute changes were made to accommodate scheduling and student needs. The “debriefing” sessions that I heard were purposeful and thought provoking. A second thanks to Renee Hamilton for organizing and supporting the MYP Personal Project night. Many exceptional projects were displayed and presented.
